Research and Planning: E4 and the Brief

E4 is a television station that is owned by Channel 4 Television Cooperation side channel that has the smaller demographic of a target audience of 15-35yr. E4 started on the 18 January 2001 and the name E4 means "entertainment 'channel' 4". E4 regularly features comedy shows such as Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and dramas such as Smallville and Hollyoaks.  Channel 4 Television Cooperation owns 6 sister channels,
Channel 4, This channel does not have a set target audience as it shows children shows before 9;00 pm, and more grown up shows after the watershed.
Film4,This channel does not have a set target audience as the films that are displayed are generally PG before the watershed and after the watershed (9:00pm) 
E4, E4 target audience is predominately females aged between 15 and 35 year old.
More 4: The channels average audience is females under the age of 35.
4Music. like most music channels there is not a set gender the channel is aimed at. 4 music is aimed at 16-34 year old, Channel 4 shares this target audience as well as E4 
Channel 4.

Stings are used as i-dents that remind the viewer what channel he/she is watching.
E-sting Analysis.

Genre: Comedy
Audience: Teenager to adults 15yrs-30yrs (Pre-Watershed)
Content:the short video/Esting shows a horse man who tries to impress the contenders at the jousting event.

Audience: 17+ (After the Watershed)
Content: A monster creeps into the child's room and gets ready to attack but the E4 alarm clock lights up and makes the monster vanish.

Audience: All ages
Content:The sting shows several sloth dancing to a tune played by one of the sloth all of which are wearing . At the end of the sting there is a giant sloth licking a leaf that is in the shape of the E4 logo.


We were given the task of creating a short animation using Lego bricks. Lego bricks are ideal when it came to building scenery such as buildings but for animating characters it is very hard to make a walking animation using Lego blocks compared to plasticine. A problem that we could come into if we use Lego in our sting is copyright issues as we would not have the right use the toy as our own. 

To complete the brief set by E4 I will create a live action stop motion fighting Esting featuring two character fighting for control over the channel. i have chosen this as it is easier to perform stunts in live action by lying down on the floor and taking photos from an elevated position.Compared to plasticine that in warmer temperatures the models can droop and can break continuity. Also it is hard to be able to suspend models in the air and pose them into dynamic poses.
